Check Out The 50th Anniversary Edition of the Ford Shelby Mustang GT-H
The Ford Shelby GT has held a special place in people's hearts as one of the most recognizable cars ever put out on American roads over the past 50 years. For the 50th anniversary of the Shelby GT350-H, Ford Motor Company, Shelby American and Hertz have unveiled a special edition performance-modified 2016 Ford Mustang GT called the Shelby GT-H.
How Did Ford Get Involved With Shelby?
In 1962, a man by the name of Caroll Shelby created a company called Shelby-American that would go on to create one of the most recognizable icons of the automotive industry. Already an accomplished racer (Shelby was Sports Illustrated driver of the year in 1956 and 1957), Shelby was forced to cut his promising career short due to personal health issues. Knowing his calling was with performance vehicles, he formed a partnership to create the now-iconic Shelby GT350 - Ford would supply new Mustangs with V8 engines, Shelby added in the extra performance, and Hertz made the vehicles accessible to the public through it's "Rent-A-Racer" program. Today, the vehicle and program are nothing short of legendary, and the first generation cars are among the most coveted by collectors world-wide.
The New Ford Shelby GT-H
With a unique Shelby-designed vented hood and carbon fiber front splitter, the car only teases what the 5.0L V8 engine is capable of. It comes integrated with Ford's Performance handling pack, as well as a host of other customizations. As a throwback to the famed "Rent-A-Racer" program of the 1960s put forth by Hertz, the Mustangs are styled with the notable Hertz black and gold livery.
