2026 F150 Towing and Conventional Tow Capacity

2026 F150 Towing and Conventional Tow Capacity

The 2026 Ford F150 has been designed to get work done. Not only has this truck has been engineered to be able to handle towing trailers and equipment from jobsite to jobsite within Edmonton and the surrounding area, but large vacation trailers as well for those weekend family getaways in the Alberta wilderness.

Because there are a multitude of demands that may need to be addressed, the F150 can configured in many ways which will yield multiple levels of capacity for towing.

Important Towing information

In regard to towing, there is some basic information to keep in mind before hitting the road.

  • Cargo and weight distribution: Ensure that loads are properly distributed and secured, with approximately 60% of allowable cargo weight in the front half of the trailer with the remaining 40% in the rear. The load should also be securely balanced side to side to avoid unnecessary forces acting on the trailer during turns or high winds.
  • Reversing: It’s important to remember that it can be extremely tricky to reverse a trailer. A small input (in steering) can result in a large output in the movement of the trailer. It’s important to go slowly and have someone help guide from a safe distance. In order to make the trailer move in a specific direction the steering wheel will always be turned in the opposite direction of the desired direction of the trailer.
  • Stopping and Braking: It’s crucial to allow for considerably more distance to stop than you would when not towing so that your momentum doesn’t carry you past your desired stop location.
  • Making Turns: When towing any trailer, you must ensure that you swing the truck wide enough to allow the trailer to avoid curbs, vehicles, or other obstacles.
  • Trim and Equipment: The tow capacity of any vehicle can be reduced based on the weight of the trim and equipment included within the trim or as optional packages. It’s important to review your specific unit to understand where this may apply. If you are ever unsure, one of our expert team members can help guide you through the process.

  • Combined weight of vehicle and trailer cannot exceed listed GCWR.
  • Do not exceed the Maximum Loaded Trailer Weight listed.
  • Trailer tongue load weight should be 10% of total loaded trailer weight. Make sure vehicle payload (reduce by option weight) will accommodate trailer tongue load weight and weight of passengers and cargo added to towing vehicle. Addition of trailer tongue load weight and weight of passengers and cargo cannot cause vehicle weights to exceed rear GAWR or GVWR. These ratings can be found on the vehicle Safety Compliance Certification Label.
  • Calculated with SAE J2807 method.
  • Maximum towing capabilities are for properly equipped vehicles with required equipment and a 150-lb driver and passenger and vary based on cargo, vehicle configuration, accessories, option content and number of passengers.
